Thicken Up!

Thin hair can be caused by a variety of different things, some of which may be internal. However, if you problem is just an external problem like over-processing, heat damage, lack of moisture or protein overload it's completely fixable. Even though I have the thin spot towards the ends on my hair overall my hair is a lot thicker than it was when I first started my hair care journey. Although I do not have the thickest of hair, it has some thickness to it.

Increasing Thickness:

Stretching your Relaxer

The first thing I think helped with gaining overall thickness was stretching my relaxers. I used to relax every 4-6 weeks prior to starting my journey and now I at the minimum double that length of time. My goal for relaxing is to only relax 4 times a year.

Minimize Breakage
Another way to increase thickness is to minimize breakage and damage, the more hairs you are breaking off the more your hair will appear to be thin. Understanding moisture and protein balances will help a lot with damage and breakage.

Helpful Products

Mega-Tek has been said to help thicken up the hair as well as old of fashioned Castor Oil. Other products that build texture in the hair may disguise the look of thin hair.

Time

Noticing an increase in the thickness of your hair will not happen overnight, instead it may take months. The key is to be presistant in you hair care regimen and try taking pictures. Monthly pictures may help you notice the thickness in your hair.

Some people are just born with thin hair and there is nothing wrong with that. Your hair may just be small in diameter than other people's hair. You might have thin hair if you have flyaways and hair that just seems weightless. A few other clues are whether or not your hair holds curls well. Experts say that thin hair is less likely to hold a curl.

Nice post! I used castor oil once or twice... I am really considering using it again.
